Artists/Lebanon

Lebanon

Lebanese music draws on the Arabic maqam system and the folk traditions of the Levant, from village dabke to zajal, the improvised sung poetry recognized by UNESCO. Beirut's 20th-century golden age — the era of Fairuz and the Rahbani brothers — made Lebanon a center of Arab music, and its artists continue to bridge Arabic, European, and jazz traditions.
